The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is progressing in Nagapattinam district, with the administration placing emphasis on early completion, transparent workflows and field-level coordination. As part of the effort, District Election Officer and Collector P. Akash on Wednesday honoured Booth Level Officers (BLOs) who achieved 100% completion of their assigned polling parts.
At a felicitation programme held at the Collectorate, the Collector presented mementoes and cash awards to BLOs from Kariyapattinam, Pranthiyangarai and Sarvakattalai villages in the Vedaranyam Assembly constituency. These BLOs had completed the entire cycle of enumeration, household verification and digitisation well before the internal deadline. Officials said that such early completion helps accelerate downstream processes, including cross-checking, roll publication and final verification.
Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Akash said the district administration had issued detailed workflow protocols to ensure that physical form collection, field verification and digital upload progressed simultaneously across all regions. âWe have broken down the SIR workflow into clear checkpoints, so BLOs and field teams can track progress in real time,â he said.
As of the Wednesday, the district has distributed a total of 5,51,132 forms across the three Assembly constituenciesâNagapattinam, Kilvelur and Vedaranyamâand uploaded 3,70,322 of them. In terms of distribution, Nagapattinam constituency has issued 1,86,603 forms, Kilvelur 1,75,064, and Vedaranyam 1,89,465. Upload progress currently stands at 71% in Vedaranyam, making it the fastest-moving segment, while both Nagapattinam and Kilvelur have reached 60% each.
The district has 653 polling stations, with 223 located in Nagapattinam, 203 in Kilvelur and 227 in Vedaranyam. Each station is assigned a dedicated BLO, and the administration has additionally deployed volunteers from Illam Thedi Kalvi, Self-Help Groups and other field-level teams to strengthen household outreach, resolve discrepancies and support data consolidation. Officials noted that the supplementary manpower has helped address high-volume localities and areas requiring multiple follow-up visits.
Mr. Akash said that under the recognition framework, the first 10 BLOs to complete the SIR workflow in each constituency would receive a Collectorâs memento along with a cash prize, while the next 20 BLOs would be honoured by the respective Returning Officers.
The Collector urged residents across all three constituencies to cooperate with BLOs during household visits, stressing that smooth verification relies on accurate and timely submission of documents. He also encouraged voters to use the 1950 toll-free helpline for any queries related to enrolment, corrections or application status.
