State BJP president Nainar Nagenthran on Monday accused the DMK government of failing to maintain law and order and allowing widespread corruption across departments.

Addressing reporters here, he said the gang-rape of a 20-year-old girl in Coimbatore had shocked the nation. “Criminal activities are taking place behind Coimbatore airport, but no proper action has been taken,” he said, adding that the incident reflected the State’s deteriorating law and order.

Mr. Nagenthran said that since the DMK assumed office, 18,200 sexual assault cases and 631 murders had been reported. “Crimes against children have risen by 15% and POCSO cases by 50%. Drug trafficking, including ganja and other contraband, is widespread, yet the Chief Minister remains silent,” he charged.

Citing reports, he claimed recruitment scams worth ₹788 crore and ₹130 crore irregularities in lorry procurement had surfaced in the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department. He criticised the government for not opening paddy procurement centres after the Kuruvai harvest, while lorry owners in Thanjavur protest over unpaid dues.

On the Special Intensive Revision, Mr. Nagenthran said such voter verifications had been done nine times since 1954 during the Congress rule and questioned the Chief Minister’s opposition to it.
