BJP Tamil Nadu president Nainar Nagenthran said the proposal to acquire farmlands near Namakkal for establishing a SIPCOT industrial estate will be scrapped, if the BJP–AIADMK alliance comes to power in Tamil Nadu.
Mr. Nagenthran, who was on the second day of his “Tamilagam Thalai Nimira Tamilanin Payanam” in Namakkal district on Tuesday, participated in a farmers’ interaction meeting organised by the district BJP at Unangalpatti near Mohanur.
Addressing the gathering, he said the mood among the public and farmers indicated a change of government in the 2026 Assembly election. “If our alliance forms the government, we will cancel the plan to acquire farmlands for SIPCOT,” he said.
He added that the BJP–AIADMK alliance would also prevent the setting up of a leather factory and prison on the premises of the Namakkal Veterinary College. Criticising the DMK government, he said the party failed to fulfil its election promise of paying ₹4,000 per tonne for sugarcane and betrayed farmers.
Mr. Nagenthran said that over one lakh farmers in Namakkal district benefit annually from the ₹6,000 assistance under the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme.
