Bengaluru’s Namma Metro once again became a lifeline by helping transport a pair of donor lungs for a transplant surgery at Narayana Health City in Bommasandra.

The organs were transported via the city’s metro network to beat traffic congestion and save crucial time.

According to a release by Narayana Health City, the transplant team began its journey from Goraguntepalya Metro Station on the Green Line and continued seamlessly on the newly inaugurated Yellow Line from R.V. Road to Bommasandra.

The 30 to 33 km journey was completed in just 61 minutes during peak rush hour.

Thanks to the swift, congestion-free metro transit, the organs reached Narayana Health City in optimal condition, ensuring the transplant surgery could proceed without delay. “The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) coordinated closely with the hospital team, with its operations and security staff on both lines providing uninterrupted logistical support,” release stated.

Expressing gratitude, the Narayana Health City commended the BMRCL for its quick coordination and operational assistance. “This timely collaboration underscores how urban infrastructure, when efficiently integrated with healthcare systems, can help save lives,” the hospital said.

For the BMRCL, this marks the third successful organ transport operation this year. In August, Namma Metro made headlines for the first time after transporting a donated liver from Vydehi Hospital in Whitefield to Sparsh Hospital in Rajarajeshwari Nagar. The organ was ferried using a combination of ambulance and metro, cutting travel time drastically amid heavy traffic.

The second instance came on September 11, when the BMRCL facilitated the rapid movement of a live human heart arranged by Sparsh Hospital. The heart was transported from Yeshwanthpur Metro Station to South End Circle Station, en route to Apollo Hospital.
