Government schools across Tiruchi district have received a significant boost under the State’s Namma School Namma Ooru Palli initiative, with donors contributing ₹5.51 crore towards school development and student support.
The initiative, implemented by the School Education Department, aims at enhancing infrastructure and improving the quality of education in government schools with support from the public, alumni, industries, and philanthropic organisations.
Since its rollout in 2022, a total of 177 projects have been executed under the scheme, benefiting 71 government schools across the district.
According to official data, donations worth ₹4.87 crore were provided in the form of material for infrastructure improvements under 143 projects. Additionally, ₹28.13 lakh in cash received from donors through 28 projects was utilised for infrastructure upgrades and essential facilities in schools identified by contributors. A sum of ₹35.50 lakh was spent in six schools based on assessments by the district authorities.
In addition to school infrastructure enhancement, the initiative supported orphaned students pursuing higher education. This year, nine students from government schools in Tiruchi who completed Class 12 and aspired for higher education received financial assistance from donors to continue their education.
