National Lok Adalat: Over 3,400 cases settled in Thoothukudi with ₹11 crore compensation

The National Lok Adalat held here on Saturday settled 3,686 cases by awarding compensation and settlement amount to the tune of ₹16.23 crore.

Judge of Madras High Court Justice A.D. Jagadish Chandira chaired the sessions held in Thoothukudi along with Principal District Judge R. Vasanthi.

A total of 15 sessions were organised as part of the National Lok Adalat at Thoothukudi, Kovilpatti, Srivaikundam, Tiruchendur, Vilaathikulam, Ottapidaaram and Sattankulam. Of the 4,588 cases taken up for hearing, 3,474 cases were settled with a compensation of ₹11.32 crore, and another 212 non-performing assets cases were disposed of with a settlement of ₹4.90 crore.

In all, the National Lok Adalat held in Thoothukudi district on Saturday resolved 3,686 cases with a settlement of ₹16.23 crore.

As the National Lok Adalat was held in 10 taluks of Tirunelveli and Tenkasi districts on Saturday, 5,209 cases were taken up for hearing and 4,096 cases were settled with a compensation of ₹15.32 crore to the victims. Another 307 non-performing assets cases were also settled during the National Lok Adalat for ₹2.19 crore.

Principal District Judge M. Sai Saravanan presided over the National Lok Adalat that took cases pertaining to motor vehicle accidents, family disputes, civil disputes and other simple cases.
