Nearly two crore workers in Tamil Nadu will be affected by the four new Labour Codes brought in by the Central government, said R. Mutharasan, former State Secretary of Communist Party of India (CPI).
The State has 18 welfare boards, of which the one for construction workers is vibrant and benefits a large number of workers. The funds in it will now go to the Centre and will be released by it to the State, he told the media in Coimbatore on Monday.
The Labour Codes are a betrayal to the workers in the country and the trade unions will continue to oppose the Codes till they are withdrawn, he said.
Mr. Mutharasan also charged the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with encouraging religious extremism in the Sate. āIt wants to create unrest in the State and make political gains out of the Thiruparankundram issue,ā he said.
The DMK-led alliance in Tamil Nadu is continuing strong for 10 years now and will face and win the Assembly elections next year jointly, he added.
The Coimbatore district administration and the police should not permit religious events planned at a private college in the district this month, in which Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi plans to take part, he added.
