Newly-elected legislators from the BJP and People Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday (November 21, 2025) took oath and pledged to serve their constituencies.

J&K Legislative Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather administered the oath to two newly-elected MLAs, Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi and Devyani Rana.

Mr. Mehdi won from Budgam Assembly constituency in the Kashmir division and Devyani Rana from the Nagrota constituency in the Jammu division earlier this month in the by-elections. Mr. Mehdi took oath in Urdu and Devyani Rana in Dogri.

“I am honoured and privileged to be sworn in as an MLA of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly taking the oath in Dogri and to serve as a legislator. I want to thank Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Ji for her blessings. Under the visionary leadership of Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Honourable Home Minister Amit Shah ji, BJP President J.P. Nadda ji, we will continue to work towards a Viksit Jammu and Kashmir which has transformed due to the statesman outlook of PM Modi,” Ms. Rana said.

Mr. Mehdi said the current reservation issue has pushed a particular section to the wall. “I think more than unemployment reservation remains the burning issue. We will register our protests against it. People have voted for me because the current government failed to deliver after getting a massive mandate from the people in 2024. I will stand shoulder to shoulder with my people to address their problems,” Mr. Mehdi said.
