The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has charge-sheeted 21 members of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) in connection with three separate terror cases in Telangana.
The anti-terror agency submitted the chargesheets before the NIA Special Court in Hyderabad on Tuesday, naming 20 arrested persons and one absconder. They have been booked under multiple sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the Arms Act, the Explosives Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS).
According to the NIA, all the accused were part of a wider Maoist conspiracy led by senior members of the organisation to wage a war against the Government of India through a series of terror activities, aimed at making Karrigutta hills a safe base for the terror outfit. The conspiracy was also intended to promote the group’s activities through violent attacks in a bid to establish a totalitarian regime, thereby threatening India’s sovereignty and constitutional order.
Arms seized
Among those arrested in May this year include Kunjam Lakka, Marigala Sumati, Kartam Joga, Kartam Bheema and Hemala Sukki. The arrests were made by Telangana Police at three separate locations in Mulugu district, where a cache of arms, including automatic assault rifles, ammunition, explosives, Maoist literature and other incriminating material, was recovered.
The NIA took over the three cases from the State police and said that its investigation remains ongoing as part of broader efforts to dismantle attempts by CPI (Maoist) to revive its activities in Telangana and neighbouring regions.
