A nine-day skill development programme on solar entrepreneurship was launched by National Institute of Technology – Tiruchi (NIT-T), in collaboration with the National Institute for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development (NIESBUD), on Monday.

According to an NIT-T press release, the programme, sponsored by the Central Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, offers hands-on training in areas such as solar system design, installation, entrepreneurship management, marketing, and after-sales service to participants.

In her inaugural address, NIT-T director G. Aghila highlighted the importance of renewable energy in the nation’s growth.

She also said that the response to the programme was overwhelming, with over 350 applications received from across Tamil Nadu. From these, 100 participants — including electricians, technicians, small business owners, aspiring entrepreneurs, and progressive farmers — were selected to take part in the first batch of the training. A second batch is being planned in view of the strong interest.

The initiative is part of a broader national mission to empower small entrepreneurs and promote sustainable livelihoods through renewable energy. It is scheduled to end on November 19.

P. Silambarasan, state head and programme director, NIESBUD, Tamil Nadu, spoke.
