Mangalore University did not admit students to its four postgraduate programs for 2025-26 owing to a lack of students required for the programme, according to its Vice-Chancellor P.L. Dharma.
At a press conference here on Wednesday, he said that students were not admitted to Electronics, Statistics, Human Resource Development (HRD), and Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ) programmes.
Of those programmes, Electronics and Statistics did not attract students for the second consecutive year. At least 15 students are required for a programme, he added.
He also said that a lone permanent teacher in the Department of Electronics has been asked to teach Cyber Security. Statistics and HRD programmes do not have permanent teachers, with faculty members of the Commerce department teaching HRD. There is also a lone permanent faculty in the MCJ department who will teach the relevant subjects listed under open electives, Prof. Dharma said.
He said that the four courses have not been closed but have been kept under suspended animation. They will be revived if more students apply in upcoming academic years.
