Congress candidate from Thirumala ward of the Alappuzha municipality T.A. Vahid has the singular distinction of working for other candidates as well. Mr. Vahid runs a flex-sheet printing unit near Kottarapalam in the town and, as he prints the ones for himself, his establishment is flush with work for many candidates across the political spectrum, including from the CPI(M) and the BJP.

Mr. Vahid says political opposition is not allowed to come in the way of his professional work, and he ensures he delivers orders to the best of his clients’ satisfaction. A long-term Congress worker, Mr Vahid had contested as an Independent candidate from the Mullakkal ward of the municipality last time after he was denied a seat by the party. He polled a considerable number of votes, which he says led to the defeat of the Congress candidate. There were no such issues this time, as the Congress fielded him without any afterthought.
