Nonagenarian injured in elephant attack dies

A 95-year-old man from Narasipuram, near Thondamuthur, in Coimbatore district, who suffered fractures in an attack by a wild elephant on August 30, died late on Saturday.

Forest Department officials said that P. Badragiri Gounder died at his residence.

The elderly man was attacked by a wild elephant when he was standing near his residence on August 30 morning. He suffered fractures on both legs and was admitted to a private hospital in the city. He was under treatment till October 10. Officials said that his condition deteriorated on Saturday night and died.

Officials added that the department had handed over a compensation of ₹10 lakh from the government to the family of Badragiri Gounder for the permanent disability when he was undergoing treatment.
