The YSR Congress and Indian National Congress on Sunday (December 07, 2025) announced to move adjournment motions in the Parliament on the alleged sexual abuse incident of a first year degree student at the National Sanskrit University (NSU) in Tirupati.

MP M. Gurumoorthy (Tirupati) and Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka (Koraput) will move the adjournment motions separately on Monday (December 08), seeking justice for the woman.

The 22-year-old from Odisha alleged that an assistant professor harassed her and filed a complaint with the varsity authorities and left for her hometown.

The NSU’s Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), which took up the matter for probe, found the charges to be true and submitted a report, based on which a complaint was filed with the Tirupati West police station by its Registrar in-charge against the assistant professor.

The accused faces charges under sections 75 (1) for sexual harassment, 77 for voyeurism, 79 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 351 (2) r/w 3(5) of BNS Act.

Meanwhile, the university was also left red-faced for its alleged inaction for nearly twelve days, as its Anti-Sexual Harassment Committee reportedly remained mum on the complaint filed by the victim to the warden on November 24.

In the complaint, the woman accused the assistant professor of possessing their intimate videos and then resorting to blackmailing and sexual harassment. She also mentioned that her parents had called her back following the incident, forcing her to discontinue her education midway.

According to reports, another assistant professor, who gained access to the intimate videos, also allegedly demanded sexual favour from her, forcing her to complain to the varsity authorities.

Speaking to The Hindu, Dr. Gurumoorthy, who is a physiotherapist by profession, expressed concern over the deteriorating academic ambience on campuses and called the incident ‘extremely unfortunate’.

“The incident that happened in the holy city of Tirupati is unpardonable. We have taken the issue to the notice of the National Commission for Women (NCW) as well as the Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan to initiate a detailed probe into the allegations and render justice to the aggrieved student,” he said.
