A day after the Directorate of Education (DoE) released the detailed criteria outlining the norms that schools must follow for the upcoming session, the admission process to entry-level classes in private unaided recognised schools in Delhi began on Friday.

Schools across the city uploaded their point system criteria on the DoE portal as well as their own websites. Like previous years, points will be awarded to candidates based on criteria such as distance from home, siblings attending the same school, and parents as alumni. For a few years, several schools have added points for a single girl child. One such school that added it this year was Mount Abu Public School, Rohini, awarding five points to this criterion.

In schools like Modern Public School, Shalimar Bagh, the maximum 70 points are for candidates residing within 800 metres of the school, 60 for those living 8.1 to 10 kilometres away, and 50 for those residing 10.1 to 12 kilometres away. It has also assigned 10 points if the student has a sibling in the school or if parents are alumni.

Principals expect their schools criteria to be reflected on the DoE website by Saturday. According to the schedule, admission forms will be available on December 4, and can be submitted till December 27. The first list will be displayed by January 23, and the second by February 9. The admission process will be concluded by March 19.

As in previous years, the DoE has banned criteria such as ‘parents’ education’ and ‘meritorious child’.

Point distribution

Schools have also been instructed to clearly display point distribution on their websites and to upload details of selected students under open seats, including their scores.
