The Puducherry Government Nursing Officers Association has urged the Health Department to fill all vacant posts on a priority basis.

A meeting of the Association was held on Saturday to discuss various issues faced by the nurses. They discussed the acute shortage of nurses and the workload for healthcare workers, a release here said.

The association said around 100 nursing posts were lying vacant in government hospitals in the Union Territory. Given the number of vacant posts, the government should refrain from opening new wards and departments till the existing vacancies were filled. The association while welcoming the decision to appoint Senior Nursing Officers condemned the government for issuing an order instructing nursing officers to continue their duties until further orders, the release said.
