A.K. Siraj, an 85-year-old resident of Chennai and a regular walker at the Theosophical Society in Adyar for nearly four decades, collapsed and died during his morning walk on Sunday (December 7, 2025).
Fellow walkers, shocked by his sudden collapse, rushed to assist him and alerted the police. Siraj, a resident of Beach Avenue in MRC Nagar, was a familiar figure on the wooded campus and was well acquainted with several regulars, including Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.
According to eyewitnesses, Siraj developed severe chest pain while walking on the serene campus. Before medical help could arrive, he passed away.
Businessman Anand Kashyap, the first to notice Siraj in distress, said that the campus, usually crowded on weekdays, was sparsely populated on Sunday (December 7, 2025). “As I saw Mr. Siraj, I sensed something was wrong. But before we could get any help, including a private ambulance, his pulse had already stopped,” he told The Hindu.
Hozefa Siraj Khorakiwala, the deceased’s son, said his father was a retired iron and steel businessman who had been walking at the Society for 40 years. “He had a mild heart attack three years ago but refused surgery,” he said.
The Shastri Nagar police have registered a case.
