Omni bus operators in Coimbatore suspended services to Kerala late on Friday in the wake of the neighbouring State imposing hefty fines during the course of the day.

Passengers were deboarded and left in the lurch, according to Omni Bus Owners’ Association.

Up to 30 buses from Tamil Nadu were detained in Kerala. The Transport authorities in Kerala have imposed fines of over ₹ 2 lakh per bus. Up to ₹ 70 lakh had been imposed as fine for the 30 buses, Anbalagan, Association president, said.

At 8 p.m., the association adopted a resolution not to operate omni buses to Kerala. The bookings in 150 buses were cancelled.

The governments of both States have to intervene. Stoppage of buses would cause untold hardship to pilgrims bound for Sabarimala, Mr. Anbalagan said.
