Omni bus operators in Coimbatore remain undecided till Saturday evening (November 8, 2025) on whether or not to resume services to Kerala, a day after 30 buses were detained and fined in the neighbouring State.
The Kerala Motor Vehicles Department had, on Friday (November 7, 2025), detained omni buses operated from other States that were found to have failed to pay State road taxes.
The 30 omni buses that were detained were levied fine to the extent of ₹70 lakh.
The omni bus owners decided to suspend services on Friday night, demanding release of the detained vehicles, and halt of the crackdown.
The contention of the Kerala officials is that though the buses hold All India Tourist permits, they have to pay Kerala’s road tax.
So far, the Tamil Nadu Government has not intervened in the issue, sources said.
