A scaffolding collapse at the ESIC Medical College and Hospital, Sanathnagar, left one worker dead and four others injured, according to the institution’s dean Dr. Shirish Kumar Chavan.

The incident occurred at around 4 p.m. while granite removal work was under way on the exterior of the hospital building. The work was being carried out by an external agency engaged by the CPWD. “The scaffolding was in place , and an outside agency was working on it,” Dr. Chavan said.

All five injured workers were immediately shifted to the hospital’s emergency unit. One of them was almost gasping on arrival and was declared dead by the doctors.

Of the remaining four, two are in critical condition and two are stable. “However, their condition could be confirmed only after diagnostic procedures. They are conscious and oriented, but I cannot say they are stable until the investigations are done,” Dr Chavan added.

The deceased has been identified as Bhanuchander, while Raghupati and Mohan are in critical condition. Mallesh and Misaiah are undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narasimha expressed grief over the incident and directed the health officials to ensure that the injured persons are provided with the best possible treatment. Hyderabad District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO), Dr Venkati reached the hospital to check and assess the condition of the injured.
