Two persons, including a Forest Protective Watcher, went missing and one person drowned after their boat allegedly capsized in the Raiwada Reservoir under the Devarapalli police station limits on Sunday.
According to Devarapalli police, Forest Protective Watcher G. Appalaraju had entered the reservoir from Jeenabadu along with another person, J. Prasad, following a tip-off about alleged illegal smuggling of timber. After reaching the other side, they were returning in the same boat accompanied by two others, G. Jeevan and D. Ramesh, when the boat reportedly overturned in the middle of the reservoir. While locals managed to rescue Prasad, while the body of Jeevan was later recovered from fishing nets.
Despite extensive search operations by the SDRF, NDRF, and the fire department, there is still no trace of Appalaraju and Ramesh.
Devarapalli police have registered a case, and investigation is underway. Search operations will resume on Monday morning, said the police.
