The Marina police on Tuesday solved a robbery case and arrested Ramadoss, 25, of Nochi Nagar, near Srinivasapuram.
The incident occurred on Monday when D. Baskar, 65, and his wife B. Malarkodi, 53, of Old Washermenpet, were on their way home after visiting their daughter in Mylapore. As they were passing Dr. Radhakrishnan Salai near the Police Headquarters, two men on a motorcycle approached them from behind.
The police said the pillion rider first attempted to snatch Malarkodi’s gold chain. When Baskar tried to steer away, the assailants grabbed Malarkodi’s handbag, causing the couple to lose balance and fall. The robbers fled with her mobile phone. Passers-by came to the couple’s rescue and rushed them to the Government Royapettah Hospital. Baskar sustained a shoulder fracture and leg bruises, while Malarkodi suffered injuries to her head and ear.
Following a complaint lodged by Baskar, the Marina police registered a case. Based on the footage and investigation, the police traced and arrested Ramadoss on Tuesday. Efforts are on to nab his accomplice.
