The Forest Department temporarily suspended online booking for two trekking trails in the district owing  to logistical issues and the Department says the issues will be sorted out and trekking will resume soon.

The Forest Department on October 25, 2024, announced 40 trails for trekking in the State and categorised them into easy, moderate, and tough routes. The Department also fixed the package amount  and announced that interested people can book and pay online for the trekking via  www.trektamilnadu.com. Out of the 40 trails, there are three trails in Salem district: Nagalur-Sanniyasimalai Peak (easy), Kurumbapatti-Gundur, and Kondappanaickenpatti-Gundur (both are moderate). As the Nagalur-Sanniyasimalai peak falls under the easy category, there was a good response from the tourists and the response was low for the remaining two trails as expected.

Meanwhile, online booking for Kondappanaickenpatti-Gundur and Kurumbapatti-Gundur trails were paused since November 1, 2025. Booking continues for the Nagalur-Sanniyasimalai trekking trail.

Salem District Forest Officer Kashyap Shashank Ravi said that the two trails are designated trek routes and will be opened again for online booking soon. Instead, in the same route, the Forest Department is facilitating a smaller trek from Gundur to Limestone Rock for online booking and we are getting a good response for it, Mr. Kashyap added.
