A large-scale late-night operation involving around 5,000 police personnel was carried out across Hyderabad on Friday night. Officers, including Hyderabad police commissioner V.C. Sajjanar, inspected vehicles, detaining suspects and seizing those without valid documents as part of Operation Kavach.
The checks were conducted at 150 locations from 10.30 p.m. to 1 a.m., with Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar overseeing inspections on the ground in areas such as Tolichowki and Gulzar Houz. After the field visits, he monitored the operation from the Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre (TGICCC) through the city’s camera network and reviewed updates with senior officers, including Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Tafseer Iqubal.

The officer said the drive was carried out jointly by law and order teams, the Task Force, Traffic police and the Armed Reserve. “Officers inspected every passing vehicle and detained individuals suspected of involvement in unlawful activity. About 15,000 vehicles were checked and 1,600 were seized for lacking documentation. Eight people were taken into custody and half a kilogram of marijuana was seized in the Tukaram Gate area. A total of 105 petty cases were booked,” said the officer.
The Commissioner added that the exercise was intended to strengthen public confidence and make Hyderabad safer by acting against offenders and those driving without valid papers. “Such checks would continue through surprise inspections in the coming weeks,” he concluded, commending the police personnel for their work during the late-night operation.
