An orange alert has been issued for the Puducherry region in the wake of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast for heavy rains from a low-pressure formation over the Bay of Bengal that is expected to intensify and move towards the Puducherry coast between November 28 and and December 1, 2025.
In a press note, A. Kulothungan, District Collector urged the public to follow a set of safety instructions as a precautionary measure.
The public has been asked to avoid going outdoors unless absolutely necessary, especially during heavy rain and to seek shelter in safe buildings if caught outside during storms.
Citizens are advised to stay away from electric poles, trees, and old structures and to not allow children to play outside.
The advisory also urged the public to stock essential items like food, water, medicines, and keep important documents safe, avoid driving through flooded roads and switch off electrical appliances during power cuts.
