Organs of brain-dead youth harvested at CMCH

: Organs of a brain-dead youth were harvested in Coimbatore Medical College Hospital and sent to other hospitals, on Tuesday.

The organs were harvested from Premkumar (19) of Thippampatti near Pollachi who had sustained head injuries in an accident on Nov. 22 and declared braindead at the CMCH.

The victim’s family volunteered to donate the organs, and they were harvested as per the guidelines of Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu.

The heart was sent to a private hospital in Chennai, and the liver to a private hospital in Salem.

One kidney and eyes were transplanted to a recipient at the CMCH, and another kidney was sent to the Government Hospital in Salem.

Doctors and nurses paid their respects to the mortal remains of the donor before being taken to the native village.
