The Congress government is providing free electricity up to 200 units to 53 lakh households across Telangana, incurring an annual expenditure of ₹2,830 crore. Of this, the government pays ₹42 crore each year to supply free power to poor households in Vikarabad district alone, said Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.
Announcing this during a series of programmes in Parigi (Vikarabad district) on Wednesday, Mr.Vikramarka said that ₹1,000 crore worth of electricity infrastructure works had been sanctioned for the constituency. These include the construction of nine substations, a 33/11 kV substation, a 400 kV substation and a 220 kV substation. An additional ₹3,000-crore investment in defence-related projects is expected to create significant employment opportunities for local youth, he added.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that major substation works are being taken up to support future industrial growth in Parigi. He said the Manneguda–Bijapur road had been approved during the undivided State, but the previous BRS government neglected it for 10 years. The Congress government, he said, resolved the NGT-2 issue, enabling the four-lane project to move ahead quickly.
He criticised Opposition leaders for alleging that the Congress government was harming the poor. “If we list the works of the previous government, they did nothing,” he said, questioning the unfulfilled promises of 3-acre land to the poor, one job per house, Bangaru Telangana, irrigation for one lakh acres in each constituency and Krishna River projects. He also cited the ₹1-lakh crore Kaleshwaram project scam, saying it was now widely known.
He criticised BRS leaders for taking photographs at MGNREGA worksites and “mocking democracy.” He said the previous government promised double-bedroom houses but “did not build even a single one for the poor”. In contrast, he said, the Congress government sanctioned 3,500 houses per constituency at ₹5 lakh each, adding up to 4.5 lakh houses Statewide, and challenged the Opposition to visit any constituency to see the houses under construction.
He said the government has spent ₹1,60,310 crore on welfare schemes, including Rythu Bharosa, loan waiver, bonus and fine rice distribution. Further, 100 Integrated Schools have been sanctioned across the State, each built on 25 acres at a cost of ₹200 crore, including one in Parigi.
Mr.Vikramarka announced that the government will launch ‘Prajabata’, a public outreach initiative under the Electricity Department. Officials will visit people directly three days a week, using a vehicle “similar to an ambulance”. He also said that solar power generation would be significantly increased.
He asserted that no Opposition can hinder the State’s progress. “Congress rule will not deceive people. This is a government working for the people, and that is the core ideology of the Congress party,” he said.
