Narcotic substances worth ₹5.79 crore were seized, and 107 individuals have been arrested by the Secunderabad division of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) so far in 2025 under its ongoing operation, NARCOS, a special drive aimed at curbing smuggling of drugs on trains.

Indian Railway Protection Force Service (IRPGS) Divisional Security Commissioner Alakunta Naveen Kumar said that the seizures and arrests represent a marked rise from last year’s figures. In 2024, the division registered 67 incidents, recovering narcotics worth ₹4.27 crore and arresting 82 persons. This year’s action reflects an increase of nearly 59% in the value of narcotics seized, and over 62% in the number of arrests.

Operation NARCOS, launched by the RPF to tackle narcotic trafficking through the rail network, involves intensified checks on trains and at identified black spots across the division. The RPF has been coordinating with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and other law enforcement agencies to identify and apprehend carriers and transporters of drugs.
