Over 2.33 lakh voters to be deleted in five Assembly constituencies of Tirunelveli district

A total of 2,33,464 deceased, permanently shifted and double entry voters are to be deleted from the electoral rolls of five Assembly constituencies in the district.

Chairing the meeting with representatives of recognised political parties at the Collectorate here on Monday, Collector R. Sukumar said the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls had identified 2,33,464 permanently shifted, dead and double entry voters in the electoral rolls of the five Assembly constituencies in the district. As per the SIR done so far, 47,598 voters (15.56% of the total voters) of Tirunelveli Assembly constituency, 46,461 voters (17.83%) of Ambasamudram segment, 36,213 voters (12.94%), 57,567 (19.29%) of Nanguneri constituency and 45,625 (16.67%) of Radhapuram segment would be removed from the electoral roll.

The representatives of the recognised political parties and their booth agents should get the details of the deleted voters from Booth Level Officers, get it confirmed through field verification and give their acknowledgement for deleting the voters, Dr. Sukumar said.

On the progress in the ongoing digitisation of voters’ details after receiving the filled-in enumeration forms from the electorate, the Collector said the details of 13,89,708 voters had been uploaded so far, which accounted for 97.98% of the SIR work.

The Collector also explained to the participants about the Election Commission’s recent decision to extend the enumeration deadline up to December 11 from December 4. Accordingly, the draft electoral roll would be released on December 16 instead of December 9. The voters can submit their objections up to January 15 to include or delete the voters. And, the final electoral roll would be released on February 14.

“We have instructed the booth level officers to include all eligible voters in the electoral roll and delete the shifted, dead and double entry voters. Hence, the political parties should cooperate with the administration in this connection,” Dr. Sukumar added.

Corporation Commissioner Monika Rana, District Revenue Officer M. Durai and others were present.
