In a major crackdown on individuals involved in illegal activities across the Capital, Delhi Police arrested over 2,000 people in a 24-hour drive under ‘Operation Kawach 11’, an official said on Wednesday.

Speaking to The Hindu, a police officer said the drive – launched at 6 p.m. on Monday – was aimed at deterring drug trafficking rings and disrupting hawala networks ahead of the November 30 Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) bypolls in 12 wards.

A total of 908 police teams conducted over 1,500 raids across all 15 police districts, targeting hotspots, repeat offenders, and vulnerable pockets, the officer said.

“Multiple teams of the Crime Branch and Special Cell, along with police officers of all the districts,  were alert during the operation. This is among the biggest single-day actions carried out by Delhi Police in recent years,” the officer said.
