Over 4.13 lakh girl and over 3.28 lakh boy students benefited under the Pudhumai Penn and Tamil Puthalvan schems in 2024-25, says T.N. government

Over 4.13 lakh girl and over 3.28 lakh boy students benefited under the Pudhumai Penn and Tamil Puthalvan programmes respectively during 2024-25, the State government said on Sunday.

The Pudhumai Penn programme provides a monthly aid of ₹1,000 to each of the girl students who complete their school education between Class VI and X at a government-run school and pursue higher education. The Tamil Puthalvan programme provides a monthly aid of ₹1,000 to each of the students from Classes VI to X pursuing their studies in Tamil medium at government-run schools and State-aided schools across the State.

An official release on Sunday listed the government’s achievements in school education. It said the the Chief Minister’s breakfast programme has been expanded to State-aided schools in rural areas too from 2024-25. Over 7.97 lakh students in Classes I to V benefited from about 50,000 Illam Thedi Kalvi centres in 2024-25. Under the Ennum Ezhuthum programme, around 25.08 lakh students in Classes I to V at over 37,700 government-run and State-aided schools were benefiting, it said.

Over 8,200 high-tech labs have been established in government schools at a total cost of ₹519 crore. Under the Perasiriyar Anbazhagan School Development Programme, a sum of ₹745 crore was allocated for ensuring amenities in 440 schools and a sum of ₹200 crore for undertaking maintenance work in 2024-25, it said.
