Ownership of an acre of land near Vellakovil by Vijayakant Narpani Mandram in 2005 was restored to the Mandram by the Kangayam sub-court on Saturday (November 8, 2025).
The land to an overall extent of three acres – 1.9 acres near Vellakovil and 1.1 acres near Sathyamangalam – was purchased in the name of the then DMDK president of composite Erode district Chandrakumar.
Seventy-three housing plots were formed and 33 beneficiaries received their share of 2.25 cents of land each. The locality was also named Vijayakant Nagar.
After switching over to the DMK, Mr. Chandrakumar who is now DMK MLA of Erode East Assembly segment had attempted to claim personal ownership of one out of the three acres.
The DMDK sources said the land retrieved from Mr. Chandrakumar will be distributed to people in need as per the initial plan.
