Paddy crop damaged in 1.2 lakh acres in Godavari delta

More than 1.2 lakh acres of paddy has been damaged due to heavy winds coupled with rains during Cyclone Montha across the Godavari delta in Andhra Pradesh. Most of the paddy damaged is ready for harvesting and as a risk of discolouration of the grain.

In West Godavari district, paddy cultivated in above 26,000 acres has been damaged and most of it remains under the sheet of water, by District Agriculture Officer Z. Venkateswara Rao claimed. Meanwhile, West Godavari District Collector Ch. Nagarani has launched paddy procurement drive on Thursday (October 30).

In an official release, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema District Collector R. Mahesh Kumar said that paddy crop in above 31,000 has been damaged and the crop damage enumeration is expected to complete by Friday.

In Kakinada district, the paddy standing crop in above 45,000 acres has been damaged. Heavy inflow into Yeleru irrigation system added woes to the farmers. 

The officials are enumerating the damage of road connectivity and infrastructure facilities. In Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema District alone, 37 school buildings have been partially damaged. In West Godavari, aquaponds in above 1200 acres have been inundated due to breach of Nalli creek near Narsapuram.
