District Tourism Department officials are exploring the development of a new tourism circuit at Padmanabham, aimed at offering visitors an experience that highlights the regionâs historical and archaeological significance in Visakhapatnam.
At a recent meeting of the District Tourism Council (DTC), chaired by District Collector M. N. Harendhira Prasad, tourism authorities were instructed to analyse the feasibility of creating a cluster that covers Padmanabham and Anandapuramâboth known for their rich heritage.
The proposed circuit is expected to include Pandrangi village in Padmanabham mandal, the birthplace of freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju; the centuries-old Siva temple at Gudilova, popularly known as Gudilova Sivalayam; and the historic Victory Pillar, or Vijaya Stupam, erected nearly 500 years ago by Emperor Sri Krishnadevaraya at Potnuru village. The plan also proposes including the ancient Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple in Padmanabham mandal to further enhance the circuitâs cultural appeal.
âWe have shared the Padmanabham tourist cluster proposal with INTACH officials. After receiving their feedback, it will be forwarded to higher authorities for development,â said District Tourism Officer Madhavi.
During the meeting, several members of the tourism fraternity requested the Collector to allow visitors access to key attractions such as the Beach Road stretch even after midnight. They pointed out that existing police restrictions force tourists to return to their hotels before midnight, though many prefer to enjoy the Beach Road at night for leisure and celebrations. The discussion also emphasised boosting water sports along city beaches, resolving land issues affecting tourism projects, and developing eco-friendly facilities at attractions such as Thotlakonda and Bavikonda.
The authorities are yet to finalise the date for the annual Visakha Utsav, which is likely to be held at the end of this month. A proposal to schedule it between Christmas and New Year is under consideration, as the city typically sees a high influx of tourists during that period.
