Panchayat bill collector accused of misappropriating ₹13.94 lakh

The Subrahmanya Police have booked Babu, bill collector of Panja Gram Panchayat, for allegedly misappropriating ₹13.94 lakh of property tax, shop rent and other receipts collected from people.

In the complaint, Panja Gram Panchayat Development Officer U.B. Jayanth said Babu failed to deposit in the panchayat’s account ₹6.05 lakh collected for the year 2024-25 and ₹7.89 lakh for the year 2025-26. Babu has issued receipts to people and some of them have produced it before the panchayat.

Following issuance of notices, Babu sought time to deposit money in the panchayat’s account. As there was no provision for Babu to keep the money with him, the complaint was filed after taking permission from senior officers, Mr. Jayanth said.

Hotel manager booked

The Subrahmanya police booked C. Premchand, manager of DE Montana Hotel and Resort in Yenekallu, for allegedly cheating the firm of ₹47.67 lakh by illegally diverting room rent charges to his account.

In the complaint, general manager of Royal Enterprises LLP S.N. Ashok Kumar, said Premchand has been functioning as the manager of the resort since February 28, 2024. He said Premchand allegedly sent his UPI ID to persons booking room at the resort and collected booking charges. He also reportedly made customers scan QR code of his account at the resort’s reception area and collected room charges. When customers failed to scan the QR Code, Premchand allegedly collected room charges in cash and deposited the same in his account.

Mr. Kumar accused Premchand of joining hands with other members of the resort staff and cheating the firm of ₹47.67 lakh.

Both complaints were registered for offences under Sections 318(3), 316(5) read with Section 3(5) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
