The pandhakaal ceremony for the 179th aradhana of saint composer Sri Thyagaraja was held at Thiruvaiyaru in Thanjavur district on Sunday.
The annual Thyagaraja Aradhana festival at Thiruvaiyaru will be held from January 3 to January 7. Special abhishekam and deeparadhana were performed to the idol of Sri Thyagaraja. The trustees of the Thyaga Brahma Mahothsava Sabha Suresh Moopanar and others participated in the event.
The festival starts with mangala isai and inauguration on January 3 evening followed by musical concerts. The main event is on January 7 when musicians will render the pancharathna kritis of Sri Thyagaraja at his ‘samadhi’ on the banks of the Cauvery at Thiruvaiyaru.
