A passenger information system and QR code for knowing accurate bus schedules will be installed at the Kozhikode Mofussil bus stand on November 21 as part of the phased rollout of BUSZ, an advanced mobility solution for transforming public transport, with smart solutions.
District Collector Snehil Kumar Singh will launch the project, which is being implemented with the support of a team of Kozhikode-based IT professionals and the Kozhikode Bus Operators Association, free of cost.
The project comes to Kozhikode city after a two-year-long trial covering areas such asĀ Kunnamangalam, Mukkam, Thamarassery, and Thiruvambady. With the support of a commuter-friendly mobile app, a comprehensive suite of digital tools, including automated on-board announcement systems, is expected to be rolled out.
According to the project designers,Ā the passenger information system makes use of GPS tools and provides live tracking of buses, accurate arrival predictions, and stop-wise information to passengers. This is a technology implemented in several foreign countries, they said.
Technicians working on the project said that the āBUSZ appā is available for free download from the Google Play Store.Ā In the next phase, the displays proposed in buses would be multilingual and customisable, they added.
To assist passengers, especially the elderly and visually impaired, buses will be equipped with automated audio-visual announcements triggered by GPS, reducing dependence on drivers and improving the travel experience. The project team said that preparations were also on to install the same in all KSRTC depots.
