A 27-year-old man was on Friday electrocuted on touching a container truck that had caught fire after an overhead electric line snapped and fell on it.
A senior official of the Avadi Police Commissionerate said the truck driven by Avinash Singh was heading to a manufacturing company in the Pattaravakkam Industrial Estate near Ambattur on Friday morning. While travelling along Pattravakkam Road, the vehicle hit an overhead electric wire, which snapped and fell on its front portion, causing a fire. Avinash Singh escaped by jumping out of the driver’s cabin.
A pedestrian — identified as Deepak Kumar, a migrant worker from Bihar — who was behind the truck, came into contact with it and was electrocuted.
Front portion damaged
The front portion of the truck was completely damaged in the fire.î ˆ
Based on an alert, the Fire and Rescue Services personnel doused the fire. Later, the Ambattur police sent the victim’s body to the Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem.î ˆ
In another incident, a car belonging to Ramesh caught fire on the Minjur-Vandalur bypass near Red Hills.
The Fire and Rescue Services personnel from the Red Hills fire station went to the scene and controlled the fire.î ˆ
