The new bus stand at Perambalur is being given a complete makeover with a host of improvement and extension works underway. The project is being executed by the Perambalur municipality at a total cost of ₹8.4 crore under the Kalaignar Nagarpura Mempattu Thittam.

Construction of additional bus bays, provision of canopy, construction of additional shops, provision of restrooms, renovation of the existing bus bays, storm water drains, renewal of bitumen surface and provision of high mast light are among the host of works being executed at the new bus stand.

As part of the project, 12 additional bus bays are under construction with the provision of canopy. This would increase the number of bus bays to 36 at the new bus stand, official sources said, adding that renovation of the 24 existing bus bays are under progress.

In addition to 60 shops, construction of 14 new shops and a restaurant has been completed.  Separate toilet blocks for men and women, which are part of the project, have also been completed. The reception area within the bus stand has also been completed.

The existing two-wheeler parking lot is being improved with iron roofing. The parking lot has been made spacious to accommodate around 700 to 800 two-wheelers, said official sources.

Works relating to paver block pavement, storm water drain and renovation of bitumen surface and the existing bus bays are also under way at the new bus stand. The plan is to complete the entire project by December, the sources further said.
