The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) announced on Wednesday (November 5, 2025) that prior permission is mandatory for erecting temporary flagpoles within its limits for special events. This applies to gatherings, election campaigns, seminars, processions, dharnas, and festivals.
According to a press release, temporary flagpoles must be installed only after securing permission in advance from the Chennai Corporation.
Any temporary flagpole erected without proper permission will be removed by the GCC without any advance notice. All entities planning such temporary installations must comply with the stipulated government guidelines; this is a non-negotiable requirement, the release added.
The announcement is as specified in Government Order No. 629 of Revenue and Disaster Management Department, dated September 16, 2025, the release mentioned.
