Person accused of availing ₹13.19 lakh loan by pledging fake gold with Bank of Maharashtra in Udupi

The manager of Bank of Maharashtra’s Brahmagiri branch in Udupi has filed a complaint accusing one Puneet Anand Kotian of availing two gold loans worth ₹13.19 lakh by pledging fake gold.

In the complaint filed at Udupi Town Police on Monday, November 3, Abhishek Gowda, the manager, said that Puneet pledged 50 gms of gold ornaments and took a loan of ₹3.2 lakh on June 18. He pledged 177.4 gms of gold ornaments and took another loan of ₹9.9 lakh on July 2.

After learning about the accused pledging fake gold ornaments and taking loans from different banks, Mr. Gowda got the ornaments checked and found that they were fake, he stated in the complaint.

The Udupi Town Police registered the complaint for offences punishable under Sections 316(2) and 318(4) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
