The Puducherry police have invoked relevant provisions of the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1988 (PIT NDPS) against a history-sheeter for keeping him under preventive detention for a period of one year.
The provisions of the Act were invoked against Iyyanar alias Thaadi Iyyanar, a resident of Arasankulam in Karikalampakkm. He was involved in several criminal cases, including four murder cases and six drug trafficking cases, in and around Puducherry. The invocation of the Act would help the police keep the accused in jail for a year, the police said in a release.
