Before starting his speech at Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana’ programme in Udupi on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made it a point to collect drawings of him made by children.
Among a large number of people who had come to the Laksha Kanta Gita Parayana programme at the parking area of the Krishna Mutt were children who had brought caricatures of Mr. Modi with them. Some of these caricatures were framed. One girl had entered the media enclosure holding one such caricature. A police constable was pulled up by her senior police official for allowing the girl into the enclosure and the girl was sent out.
Just before starting his speech, Mr. Modi said he was seeing a good number of children displaying his drawings. Asking the Special Protection Group and police to collect all the drawings, he said, “I feel sad if children go away without handing over to me their artwork, which they have painstakingly done. Please write your address behind them. I will send a thank-you letter. I will send gifts to the child whose art work I like”.
Children wrote their postal addresses on the artwork and handed them over to policemen, who, in turn, handed them over to the SPG.
