The police have solved an eight-year-old murder case in which a man was killed by his wife and her associates after she developed an extramarital relationship.

Police Commissioner Sharanappa S. Dhage, addressing a press conference here on Friday, said that the case resurfaced after Bhimashankar Poojari of Kadani village lodged a fresh complaint on November 17 this year.

He reported that his 25-year-old younger brother Beerappa Poojari, who was believed to have died due to excessive alcohol consumption in 2017, was actually murdered but the family members assumed it to be a natural death.

According to the complaint, Beerappa’s wife Shantabai had developed an illicit relationship with Siddu Mallanna Bagalkot. When Shantabai conspired to eliminate her husband, Siddu Bagalkot, accompanied by his three friends, Mahesh Rathod, Suresh Rathod and Shankar Bichgatti, executed the murder in 2017.

Following the complaint, Farhatabad Police registered a case and formed a special investigation team under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Kanika Sikriwal and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Administration) Praveen H. Naik, who gathered information and apprehended all five suspects.

During interrogation, the accused confessed to their involvement in the murder, Dr. Dhage said. All five were arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
