The State government has transferred J.M. Kalimirchi, the police inspector who had attracted controversy for taking a selfie with a Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti leader during the Karnataka Rajyotsava celebrations.

He has been shifted out of Malmaruti police station, but has not given a posting. B.R. Gaddekar, police inspector, of the Cyber, Narcotics and Economic offences wing has taken charge of the Malmaruti police station.

Kannada organisations had taken objection to the officer taking the photograph along with Shubham Shelke, MES youth wing leader, who is facing some criminal charges. The police sources, however, said the CPI had been asked by senior officers to take the photo to ensure that Shubham Shelke, who was absconding, was traced during the Black Day celebrations by MES on Rajyotsava day.
