Pondicherry University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government on social media internships and communication outreach of various welfare schemes.
The MoU was signed recently by the Community College of the University and the Department of Information and Publicity in the presence of Chief Minister N. Rangasamy and Pondicherry University Vice-Chancellor P. Prakash Babu.
Under the MoU, a social media internship and communication wing will be established by the Department of Information and Publicity to disseminate information about welfare schemes and government events through social media.
Rajneesh Butani, Registrar (In-Charge), and R. Mounissamy, Director of Information and Publicity, were signatories to the agreement.
The ceremony was also attended by Mohamed Ashan Abid, Secretary, Information and Publicity Department, Victor Anandkumar, Dean – International Relations and Lalitha Ramakrishnan, Principal, Pondicherry University Community College.
The initiative will be led by final-year Visual Communication students from Pondicherry University Community College, with oversight from the Information and Publicity Department, a press note said.
The five-member team of the social media internship and communication wing will operate from the Chief Secretariat under the supervision of Information Director. The University has designated Krithika as nodal officer for the initiative.
The partnership aims to enhance transparency and public engagement by leveraging social media to share reliable information about welfare schemes and government programmes, while providing practical industry exposure to students and strengthening institutional communications, the University said.
