Following successful implementation of the ‘Shakti’ scheme, free bus travel for women in the State, the government has decided to display posters of the scheme on Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC )and other RTC buses.

The decision was taken after MLC and State Guarantee Implementation Authority vice-president Dinesh Gooli Gowda submitted a petition to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.

Under the government’s flagship five guarantee schemes, the government has instructed relevant departments to take necessary steps to promote these programmes by displaying wall posters (stickers) on KSRTC and BMTC buses across Karnataka, thereby ensuring the success of the campaign, Mr. Gowda said.

According to the London Book of World Records, Karnataka holds the world record for the ‘highest number of free bus journeys by women’ under the Shakti scheme, Mr. Gowda said.

Under the scheme, women have availed 595 crore free bus journeys, valued at ₹15,265 crore.

He also appealed to the government to increase the honorarium and meeting allowances for district and taluk guarantee committee chairpersons, vice-chairpersons, and members.
