Former Congress Minister who is now with the BJP, Pramod Madhwaraj, who had presented ‘Kanaka Kavacha’ (golden cover) to Udupi Sri Krishna Mutt did not attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s programme in Udupi on Friday.
Sources cite the reason as to his name was not in the list of guests who will join the Prime Minister during the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana programme as approved by the Prime Minister’s Office.
They said that Mr. Madhwaraj had presented the golden cover to the Kanakana Kindi, a sacred window through which Saint Kanakadasa is believed to have had the divine darshan of Lord Krishna, the form of his “seva”. Mr. Modi dedicated it during this visit to the mutt.
As Mr. Madhwaraj’s name was not in the list of names approved by the PMO he stayed away from the programme, sources added.
All the guests who were seated on the stage of the programme had occupied their chairs before the arrival of the Prime Minister on the stage. They included Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot, Rajya Sabha Member D. Veerendra Heggade, Members of Parliament Kota Srinivas Poojary and B.Y. Raghavendra, MLAs Yashpal Suvarna, V. Sunil Kumar, Gurme Suresh Shetty, Gururaj Ghantiholi, Kiran Kodgi, B.Y. Vijayendra, and Union Minister Pralhad Joshi.
