President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished Rajya Sabha MP and Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Pattadhikari D. Veerendra Heggade on his 77th birthday on November 25.

In a letter addressed to Mr. Heggade, the Prime Minister lauded the MP’s developmental and social initiatives. His relentless efforts will pay rich dividends and help the country become a global superpower in 2047 when the Amrit Kaal celebration of Indian Independence will be held, Mr. Modi stated.

Ms. Murmu also sent a letter wishing Mr. Heggade on his birthday, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah called Mr. Heggade and wished him.

Commemorative stamp

A ₹5 postal stamp to commemorate Mr. Heggade’s 77th birthday was brought out by Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) and India Post. It was released in a function held at Dharmasthala on November 25.

The stamp was released by Udupi Chief Postal Superintendent Ramesh Prabhu. These stamps were brought on stage by a robot named Shruti.

Speaking on the occasion, LIC South Central Zone Manager Puneet Kumar said LIC has been associated with Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Programme (SKDRDP) for the last 17 years. The LIC has been training women self-help group members in rural and semi-urban areas as Bima Sakhis, who function as insurance agents and provide people with affordable insurance solutions. As many as 15 lakh Bima Sakhis were working in the country and LIC gives them salaries and commissions, he said.

A.P.J.M.J. Sheik Saleem, the grand-nephew of former President (Late) A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, said the A.P.J. Abdul Kalam International Foundation will be associated with SKDRDP’s rural development initiatives in the coming days. Mr. Saleem said some of the articles used by Abdul Kalam will be donated for display at Manjusha Museum in Dharmasthala.
