A 34-year-old prison warder was arrested for smuggling mobile phones and ganja into the Salem Central Prison and was placed under suspension on Friday evening (November 28, 2025).
The arrested was identified as Selvarasu, a resident of Mohanur in Namakkal district, who was working at Salem Central Prison as a second-grade warder. On Friday, when he was exiting the prison post duty, acting on a tip-off, the prison officials checked Selvarasu’s bag and found three mobile phones, 80 grams of ganja, gutkha, one SIM card, and 50 pills.
Inquiries revealed that the warder allegedly tried to supply the mobile phones and drugs to prisoners. Later, he was handed over to the Hasthampatti police. Following the incident, the warder was placed under suspension immediately.
